Racing was punctuated by several off course excursions and numerous mechanical failures at Teretonga Park today (Sunday).
Nevertheless several drivers managed to shine in their respective classes at the meeting presented by Downer.
Invercargill driver Colin Dawson dominated the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloon class in his V8 powered Mazda RX7. Dawson took four from four with Pierre Neame of Winton second on three occasions. When Neame failed to finish in the third race of the day Robert Ralston snared a runner - up spot in his Nissan Silvia. Ralston also managed to score a third place while Andrew Brown in his turbocharged Honda Civic collected three third place finishes throughout the day.
Damon Leitch dominated the Sports & Racing car class in the Formula Renault he is using to prepare for his tilt at the Toyota Racing Series which begins in January. Leitch led home the same trifecta in each race as he was followed across the line by Jamie Conroy and Don Nelson of Riverton on each occasion.
Chris Small of Timaru and Gary Duncan of Temuka shared the wins in the Kumho Sport Saloon races. Small won the first in his Mitsubishi EVO from the similar cars of Duncan and another Timaru driver Nathan McAuley. Duncan led home brothers Nathan and Ivan McAuley in the second race and Grant Waters and Ivan McAuley in the third as he drove impressively to overcome his handicap in each race.
Super 6 Saloon honours were also shared but every race went the way of Holden. Dunedin driver Todd Sutherland won two of the three races in his Commodore with Kurtis Boult of Queenstown taking the other. The Commodores are numerically much stronger in the championship and they dominated the second places also - John Muir of Gore, Sam Paddon of Dunedin and Boult collecting one apiece. Wayne Christie of Christchurch managed two third placings to uphold Ford honour with Todd Sutherland also taking a third placing.
Karts also featured on todays programme, Peter Dickson taking the first race from Graham Reid and Kieran Roberts before Roberts took the second and third races from John Jennings and Nigel McAnnelly.
The next meeting at the circuit takes place over the weekend of 5/6 December.
