TKR development drivers dominate Teretonga

Photo: Ben Dallas

Team Kiwi Racing have shown yet again that their and their sponsors investment and time put into the development of young up and coming Kiwi drivers under the TKR umbrella continues to produce results as strongly as ever with current TKR drivers Ben Dallas, Craig Innes and Matt Gibson all following in the footsteps of previous Kiwi drivers TKR has supported such as Jason Richards, Angus Fogg, John McIntyre, Nick Ross, Craig Baird, Fabian Coulthard and Paul Radisich to name a few.

At the latest round of the New Zealand Championship held at Teretonga Park in Invercargill, TKR qualified in first, second and third positions for the third round of the New Zealand Championship.

Ben Dallas, who currently leads the Championship, qualified on Pole followed by fellow TKR drivers Craig Innes in second position joining Dallas on the front row for the second All Black front row of the year with Matt Gibson qualifying the third TKR car in 3rd position right behind Dallas and Innes.

Race One, a new mini-endure format of 30 laps, saw the TKR drivers finish in 1st - Innes, 2nd - Dallas and 3rd - Gibson.

Race Two, a 10-lapper, saw the TKR drivers again fighting it out for the the podium spots swapping positions throughout the race before finishing in 1st - Innes, 2nd - Dallas and 3rd - Gibson.

In Race Three the weather turned on a downpour throwing up new challenges for the drivers to deal with. TKR finished in first, second and fifth in class after Dallas locked a brake and speared off the track while in second position; the excursion collecting plenty of mud inside the front rim from the wet outfield and damaging a rear rim. Ben nursed the car to the finish at a greatly reduced pace to collect some points.

Craig Innes, driving the number 2 TKR/Pit Stop BMW Mini, won all three races rounding off a great weekend for himself and the team.

TKR now sit first, second and third in the 2010/11 BMW MINI Championship with three rounds to go.

TKR won this Championship last season and claimed second overall as well.

The 4th round of the six round Championship is to be held at Timaru "Levels" Raceway next weekend.
