A second night of snow and sleet in the south has forced the cancellation of motor racing at Teretonga Park in Invercargill today (Sunday 19 September).
The Southland Sports Car Club, operators of the Teretonga Park circuit, had scheduled a two day meeting to open the season this weekend with the opening round of the South Island Endurance Series on Saturday and several other classes due to open their season with a series of races on Sunday.
However the Endurance Race was called off after a heavy overnight snowfall on Friday night and with more snow and sleet on Saturday night the decision was taken to postpone Sundays programme. No decision has been made at this stage regarding a rescheduling of the meeting.
The race meeting, presented by Downer, was due to feature the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloons, Pro 7 Saloons, Sports & Racing Cars plus Karts and Motorcycles in addition to the South Island Endurance Series round scheduled for Saturday. The ASKO Appliances Endurance Series was hit with a second consecutive cancellation after the opening round of that series in Christchurch was postponed after the Canterbury earthquake two weekends ago. The Endurance Series cars will now move to Timaru on Saturday 2 October while the next scheduled meeting for Teretonga Park is on Sunday 7 November.
