Two new classes of racing look set for the coming NZ summer of circuit competition. Sports GT and Production GT will provide a fantastic opportunity for Porsche GT3 Cup cars and Production Racing cars; mixing it with a host of others to produce exciting racing.
Motorsport NZ are putting the final touches to plans for a Sports GT category that will pave the way for any Schedule A compliant saloon car at the top level of competition to contest any or all six rounds of the championship series.
This could see vehicles like the TVR Tuscan, the Carters Supercar with Porsche GT3 (996 & 997) Cup cars.
Also fitting into this class are the GT1 and GT2 cars from the GTRNZ class along with the South Island OSCA class.
This new Sports GT will be about fast saloon cars on slick tyres creating fast and close racing with large grids.
The second category that Motorsport NZ is contemplating is Production GT which also has its roots in Schedule A will be for production based saloon cars.
This will incorporate the Production Racing Championship and cars from NZGT out of the GTRNZ Series and from the Sports Saloons which are raced in the South Island.
Look for big fields and close racing as there will be plenty of cars that can come out of their garages for these two new classes.
