Lawrence heads south

After a dream opening round at Pukekohe, Hamilton’s Shaun Lawrence is heading to the South Island for Round Two of the 2011/12 Suzuki Swift Sport Cup being held at Christchurch’s Ruapuna Raceway.

Brimming with confidence, the team are looking to maintain the outstanding pace they showed from the first race of the new Season. Lawrence and the Liquorland Racing team were delighted to come away from Pukekohe not just in second overall, but with the car in perfect shape – a far cry from twelve months ago where the car was completely destroyed in a spectacular barrel-roll.

“If anything I’ve been working even harder between rounds to keep on top of my fitness. Fatigue (due to the heat inside in car) can really get to you, and last year I noticed a huge difference. This year I really think we’re completely on top of that side of things” said Lawrence.

The Christchurch rounds marks the first of three consecutive South Island meetings, after Ruapuna the Championship heads to Timaru’s Levels circuit, then to Invercargill where they will compete on the world’s Southern-most race track, Teretonga.

“I want to get going now!” explains a smiling Lawrence. “I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Championship, and it’s great to be able to reward  the faith shown by my fantastic sponsors and supporters. The whole team has a really good feel to it, it’s just awesome” he added.
