New Zealand's four-man Rotax Max Challenge kart team is on track at the Al Ain Raceway near Abu Dhabi today working through their practice and qualifying sessions ahead of Saturday's Grand Finals.
This year's Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals meeting in Abu Dhabi has attracted 264 drivers from 60 countries with New Zealand represented by Daniel Kinsman (Senior Max), Kane Taylor (DD2), Steven Currie (DD2 Masters) and Reid Harker (Junior Max), all from Auckland.
Kinsman, who this year will contest the premier Senior Max class, has already attended a Grand Final meeting, finishing 13th in the Junior Max category in Egypt in 2009.
This year's is the 12th Grand Finals meeting with New Zealand one of the pioneering territories which have send teams to every event since the inaugural one in Puerto Rico in 2000.
Though we have yet to claim an outright class win we have got tantalisingly close, Palmerston North-born international Josh Hart finishing second in the Senior Max class and Christchurch driver Matthew Hamilton finishing third in DD2 in Italy last year and Hamilton finishing third in Senior Max in Egypt the year before.
Wanganui-based kart-turned-car racer Earl Bamber also finished fourth in the Junior Max class in 2004.
