Photo: Jason Faint A four-strong contingent of Australian karters led by KZ2 class driver Jason Faint will take on their Kiwi counterparts at this year's Mi Sedaap instant noodles-sponsored CIK Trophy of New Zealand meeting in Wellington over the January 28-29 weekend.
Feint, 28, from Gladstone in northern-Queensland, will be joined by 21-year-old Matthew Waters and 17-year-old Jacob Parsons from Sydney, and 15-year-old Brock Plumb from Brisbane.
Waters and Parsons will contest the new KF2 Senior class while Plumb will contest the KF3 Junior one.
The entry is the largest from across the Tasman since 2006 and adds a strong international dimension to the KartSport Wellington-organised Mi Sedaap CIK Trophy of New Zealand meeting,
"There's certainly plenty of potential for some good close racing, not just in the KZ2 class either," says KartSport New Zealand Development & Administration Manager Robert Hutton.
Waters in particular, will be one to watch, the 21-year-old having finished third in the Pro Light (KFI) class in last year's CIK Stars of Karting Series across the Tasman.
Plumb also crosses the Tasman with an impressive CV having finished runner-up in the Pro-Junior/KF3 class in the CIK Stars of Karting Series in 2010 and fifth in 2011.
Since its inception the annual CIK Trophy of New Zealand meeting has attracted top drivers from both New Zealand and Australia with previous title winners winners including Wade Cunningham - 2003 CIK-FIA World Karting Champion and now an IndyCar driver, former A1GP and now leading Porsche GT3 Cup driver Jonny Reid, 2008 International Formula Master champion Chris vander Drift, 2007 World Series by Renault Eurocup 2 litre champion and former Red Bull F1 test driver Brendon Hartley, current GP3 driver Mitch Evans and V8 Supercar star Shane van Gisbergen.
Australia’s Matt Wall is a also a double CIK Trophy of New Zealand winner (2005 and 2006).
The venue for the two-day meeting is KartSport Wellington’s CRC Raceway which is located off the road to Pakuratahi Forest, State Highway 2, Kaitoke.
