The Eastern Southland Car Club celebrate the 2010/2011 season when they hold their 55th Annual Prizegiving and Dinner at the Heartland Croydon Hotel in Gore on Saturday 2 July.
The club has gone from strength to strength in recent times and the prizegiving will once again honour those who have achieved throughout the recently concluded season. The club is delighted to have Shayne Harris, the President of Motorsport New Zealand, and his wife Nicki at this years awards. Shayne will be the guest speaker during the evening. Harris of Palmerston North is just the fourth individual to hold the position in the last 50 years. Elected in May 2010 he is a former racer and has been an assistant race director during the premier summer motor race series for several seasons. Harris is a licensed Clerk Of The Course and has held many administrative roles within the sport. He also has close links with the Eastern Southland Car Club having worked closely with club members, area steward and life member Wade Paterson, plus David Kirk as part of the management team of the summer series.
The club also welcomes two other special guests for this years event, Rocky and Lisa Hudson of Christchurch. The Hudsons are well known motorsport competitors and club members who have provided much help to the Eastern Southland Car Club over the years. The club will bring them to Gore for the awards as a thank you to them for their efforts over the years and also to give them a welcome break from the ongoing aftershocks that are plaguing their hometown.
The Eastern Southland Car Club are also grateful to the Mataura Licensing Trust and the Heartland Croydon Hotel for providing accommodation for the guests.
Tickets for the event are available from Errol Hewlett - ejem@southnet.co.nz or phone 03 208 9984 at a cost of just $40 each. The evening commences with drinks at 5.30pm with guests seated ready for a buffet meal at 6.30pm.
