Championship status confirmed for NZ Production Racing

MotorSport New Zealand has confirmed continued championship status this season for the Production Racing Championship.

There is an all new twist to this competition though this season with the traditional PR cars running amongst a mixed field of cars for their six round championship set to start at Pukekohe.

To add some real spice to the field, The MotorSport Company has opened the field up to more than just the pure-bred championship cars. At the three North Island events there is expected to be a massive field of Sports GT and Production GT type cars joining the fray.

This will provide a huge spectacle for the crowds and add a real curve ball to the PR championship.

In the three South Island events the PR championship field will be joined by the southern Sports Saloon sanctioned series. The wilder spec Sports GT cars will have their own race at these events.

The real boost here for the PR championship is that rather than running in a smaller field of cars they will spend the season in hot competition surrounded by a huge variety of cars.

With the Sport and TMC looking to work on the Production concept with the teams, the objective this season is to widen the net so to speak to see how this new format works.

The strategy is to stay with a Production based chassis but build a category that represents a premier competition. This can encompass Endurance formats or sprint racing.

The future is still well and truly alive for Production Racing and we are expecting a very cool cross-section of cars at every round this season.
