New 997 GT3 Cars Start to Arrive

Earlier this week the first of the new 2008 997 GT3 Cup Cars arrived on New Zealand shores.  It was picked up from Auckland International Airport, where it arrived with two other 997 GT3 Cup Cars over the weekend, and was transported to International Motorsport where it will be checked over and sealed before being released to its new owners.

New Zealand is the first country in the world to receive the new 2008 version of the 997 GT3 Cup Car, and the car will hit the track for the first time in the world at Pukekohe Park Raceway on Thursday 1st November in preparation for the first round of the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge NZ championship which takes place on November 2-4.

The remaining cars, of which there are 12 in total, will arrive over the next few weeks, and all are being air freighted from Germany where they are built by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach.

The new car features an upgraded 3.6 litre normally aspirated engine which produces 420bhp (an increase of 20bhp over the previous model). The engine also produces additional torque, and combined with an upgraded six speed sequential gearbox means the new car will ensure even faster and more exciting racing this season. Visual exterior changes include the fitment of the bumper panel from the GT3 road car at the rear.
