Tickets have gone on sale for the annual Summer Series Motor Race meeting at Teretonga Park in Invercargill from 16-18 January.
Known this year as the Southern 200 the highlight of the event will be the BNT V8s Championship, with it's high octane Ford versus Holden action.
Supporting the hugely popular V8s will be the Toyota Racing Series, the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup, the MTA Formula Ford Championship, the Suzuki Production Racing Championship and the MINI Challenge.
Tickets for the event are available from Auto Centre in Tweed Street Invercargill and participating BP outlets at a cost of $30 each while children under 14 accompanied by an adult gain free admission. Corporate hospitality packages are also available at www.motorsport.org.nz
There is a small amount of curtainsider parking still available and inquiries should be directed to the Southland Sports Car Club Office at Teretonga Park - phone 03 213 0522.
Competition is as fierce as ever in all classes with Ford drivers Kayne Scott of Hamilton and John McIntyre of Nelson currently separated by just four points in the BNT V8s Championship with one more round scheduled before the teams roll into Invercargill next month. Both are former champions, McIntyre having taken the title for the past two seasons and Scott the year prior to that. Andy Booth upholds Holden honour in third place and he too is a former two-time champion. Inky Tulloch maintains a Southland presence in the series in his Team CAT Rental Falcon.
Kiwi Mitch Cunningham leads the Toyota Racing Series currently, but again the lead is just four points. Australian Nathan Antunes is second in the points while another Australian, Scott Pye, showed real pace at the opening round. Teretonga is fortunate to be one of the International Series rounds of the series this season and that will ensure several other international competitors on the grid come January.
Meanwhile Craig Baird is currently leading the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup from Australian David Reynolds while 15-year-old rising star, Damon Leitch of Invercargill, will line up in his Zero Fees Stealth in the MTA Formula Ford Championship races. The Suzuki Production Racing Championship has seen large fields and excellent racing at the opening rounds while the MINI Challenge series has smaller fields this year but the racing is as hard fought as ever.
