Teretonga Park on the outskirts of Invercargill is primed for another huge season of motorsport.
With the season due to get underway on the last Sunday in September it is a programme that will again be headlined by the premier summer Motorsport Series meeting from 16-18 January. The Summer Series meeting will again feature the biggest drawcard in New Zealand motor racing, the hugely popular NZV8s. They will be supported by the other premier classes of the sport, the Toyota Racing Series, the Porsche GT3 Cup, the MINI Challenge, Formula Ford Championship and the Production Racing Series. The meeting returns to it's traditional January date after being held in March for the past two years.
The other major event of the season, the annual Leitch Motorsport/Southland Times Classic SpeedFest is scheduled for the weekend of 21/22 February. The SpeedFest has been boosted by some fantastic attractions in the past two years and plans are currently underway to add some exciting features to next year's event. Currently Classics, Clubmans, Mini 7's, Sports Cars and Touring Cars are proposed for what will be an action packed two-day programme.
Before these events take place in the height of the summer, the opening meeting of the season presented by Fulton Hogan will kick off proceedings on Sunday 28 September. The event will feature the opening round of the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Series, Sports Cars, the A1 Auto Services 1 Hour Endurance Race, the annual Otago versus Southland Challenge plus motorcycle races.
That will be followed by the second meeting of the season on Sunday 2 November where the Clubmans Series, Sports Cars and Mazda Pro 7's are the key classes. The final event prior to Christmas brings a great line up of classes to the circuit over the weekend of 6/7 December. Kumho Sport Saloons, Super 6 Saloons, Pre 65 Saloons and South Island Formula Ford join the Clubmans and Sports Car categories to provide a strong programme.
The two major meetings of the season follow before the big finale to the season over the weekend of 21/22 March. One of the highlights will undoubtedly be the second ever appearance of the V8 Utes at Teretonga. They will be supported by Pre 65 Saloons, Super 6 Saloons and the final round of the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Series. As is tradition at the final race of the season the 3-hour Endurance race will be part of the programme at this event.
Season tickets are available from the Chairperson of the Teretonga Park Race Committee, Wendy Jenks - phone 03 216 6641 after hours. These represent excellent value at a cost of just $100 each.
