Hutton secures Top Half title

Thirteen-year-old King’s College student Arie Hutton secured the 2008 Top Half Series in the Junior 100cc Yamaha class with a second place finish at the final round contested at KartSport Auckland's The Pallet Company Raceway on Sunday July 27.

The four round series, contested at different venues over the last four months, attracted 23 Junior Yamaha competitors with Arie winning 11 of the 19 heats in the series.

Commenting on the final round Arie said: "We dropped a few points to Daniel Kinsman at Round 3 but still came into the final round with a handy lead so the day was all about managing the gap to Daniel. I was a bit under the weather with a bad cold. In fact my cold was matched by the terrible weather all weekend. We did not practice on Saturday and on Sunday conditions were equal to the worst I have driven in with a lot of standing water and very poor visibility.

Daniel had a speed advantage all day however we were quick enough to secure the Series after three of the four heats. There wasn’t much between Daniel and I all series, we both had two round wins, and I would like to acknowledge the great competition. I would also like to thank my sponsors, Super Freight and Spark Engines for their ongoing support."
