2012 Rally of the North route announced

Photo: Dylan Turner

The route for the 2012 Rally of the North has been announced and includes approximately 185 kilometres and eight special stages on closed roads around Northland, subject to council approvals.

This year the eight special stages are all named after previous winners of the event including Andrew Hawkeswood, Ben Jagger and last year’s winner, Dylan Turner. The serene town of Paihia will be the main stop of the rally again as it will host the start and end of day stops as well as the main lunch service.

There are also two new stages based south of Paihia, which will prove to be an interesting and exciting twist to the event which will really test the crews. However, the competitors will face yet another challenge as the Rally of the North is also the final round for both the Rally Xtreme Series and the Top Half Series where the titles for these series can be won or lost.

The Rally Xtreme series is a new series with six events that is based solely in the North Island and contests only one day per round, to create a competitive environment for competitors but also to cut the ever increasing costs in rally events.

Additionally, the Top Half Series with its four events will also be contested at the Rally of the North in 2012 but it will still prove to be as challenging as ever to take out the overall title.

So, if you want to compete in this exciting yet demanding rally be sure to join our email list to get the latest news and updates on the event.

Don’t forget we are also looking for sponsors for the event, who are vital in the running of the event, please get in touch with Anita Greenland.

The organising committee thanks the Northern Sports Car Club for their continued support to host the event again this year.
